Sandy Point, St. Kitts — The Sandy Point Benevolent Society (SPBS), Inc. will officially launch its Annual Scholarships and Awards Season on March 16, 2026, continuing one of the organization’s flagship programmes aimed at supporting educational advancement among students in St. Kitts.
According to Mr. William V. A. Hodge, CSM, Chair of the SPBS Scholarship and Awards Committee, the organization expects to distribute approximately US$25,000 in scholarships and academic awards in 2026.
Scholarships and Academic Awards#
SPBS anticipates granting seven scholarships to students pursuing bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, while seventeen academic awards will be presented to students enrolled in selected primary and secondary schools.
The scholarship programme is open to graduates of the Charles E. Mills Secondary School (formerly Sandy Point High School), Verchilds High School, and Dr. Denzil L. Douglas Secondary School (formerly Saddlers Secondary School).
Applicants must be currently enrolled at an accredited college, university, or vocational institution.
Applications will be accepted online only from March 16 to April 26, 2026, through the SPBS website, www.spbsinc.org.
Awards for Secondary and Primary School Students#
In addition to scholarships for tertiary students, several academic awards will be available to students currently attending Charles E. Mills Secondary School.
Awards will also be presented to Grade 6 graduates from feeder primary schools who will begin studies at the Charles E. Mills Secondary School in the upcoming academic year, including St. Paul’s Primary School, Newton Ground Primary School, and Sandy Point Primary School.
New Awards Introduced in 2026#
Dr. Mervyn Richardson, Vice President of the 30-year-old alumni association, announced that several new scholarships and awards will be introduced this year.

One of the new recognitions is the Dr. Almesha Richardson Innovation Award, sponsored by Dr. Almesha Richardson Campbell, a national of St. Kitts and Nevis originally from Newton Ground.

“This award is more than financial support. It is mentorship, opportunity, and belief in the limitless potential of our students. I’m proud to help inspire the next generation of innovators in St. Kitts,” Dr. Richardson Campbell said.
Another addition is the Enid Richardson Memorial Award, sponsored by the children of the late Enid Richardson, a former headmistress of the Sandy Point Junior School who was trained at Spring Garden Teacher’s College in Antigua.
A third new recognition is the William V.A. Hodge, CSM Compassionate Award, honouring veteran educator William V. A. Hodge, whose career in education spans more than five decades, including service as a principal and later as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education.

Reflecting on the programme, Mr. Hodge said:
“Being on the receiving end of SPBS’ goodwill was one of the best things that happened to Sandy Point High during my tenure. Today I cherish the opportunity to support the mission of SPBS which calls us ‘to give back so others can move forward.’”
Long-Standing Educational Impact#
Dr. Richardson noted that the scholarship programme has had a significant and lasting impact on the educational landscape of St. Kitts. Since the organization’s founding in 1996, the primary beneficiaries have been Charles E. Mills Secondary School and its feeder primary schools, with additional awards recently established at Verchilds High School and Dr. Denzil L. Douglas Secondary School.
