SKN AM Creator Reveals Childhood Journalistic Dreams Driving the Show’s Creative Direction

Following the debut of SKN AM on May 5, 2026, co-creator and host Jamie Morris confessed that the show’s journalistic and entertainment style is a deliberate effort to add value to the lives of local and regional viewers while also satisfying his own childhood dream of being a journalist.

The Beginning#

“As a child, I remember falling in love with radio when I travelled – the songs, the hosts, the entire vibe. That’s when the idea of a career in media began to take shape. From watching Larry King, Campbell Brown, Fox News, BBC and others to appreciating how important information was in everyday life. I wanted to be part of that process.”

The Opportunities#

That desire motivated him to audition for a role at a local media station and earned him a 6-week internship back in 2002. Later, he volunteered for the television ministry at his home church, Calvary Baptist Tabernacle, and also hosted a nightly radio program where he became more intimately involved in production.

Over the years, Morris weaved his way into media, taking temporary positions in radio and television along the way. Yet, it was his interest in learning about people and sharing that knowledge with others that ultimately informed his one-on-one interview style that features prominently on SKN AM.

“I was privileged enough to have great mentors who saw something in me that they were willing to bet on. I was also lucky enough to learn from them invaluable ways of thinking about my work that continue to inspire me to raise the bar even higher than I met it.”

Exploring Creative Freedom#

Morris says that the new show allows him to satisfy his naturally curious mind – something he says he can do more fully as the co-creator, host, and co-producer of SKN AM and one of two proprietors of Urban Kreationz – the entity that produces the show.

There were questions I wanted to ask and leads I wanted to follow up on that I never had the chance to during my previous stints in media. Working for others can be like this sometimes; you go where you are sent but not necessarily where you want to be. Now, I can go where I want to with the guests I want to, exploring the fabric of our society, examining issues, and presenting stories that have the potential to create shared meaning and value. It’s the continuation of a dream that began over three decades ago and I am honoured to be fortunate enough to live it out.

As for the focus of SKN AM, Morris says that plans continue to evolve and that he is excited by the avenues yet to be explored.
